Rural Australian Romance
Nestled cosily within the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area is Wolgan Valley, a 2,800 hectare rural property that has to be seen to be believed. As you approach the property, you will notice the paddocks widening on either side of you, cuddled by magnificent cliffs that seemed to draw you in as you drive. Spatterings of golden-yellow Australian Wattles will become more prevalent, with herds of livestock grazing near the wooden fencing and native marsupials skipping (kangaroos and wallaroos) or plodding (wombats) alongside you.
This is Australia.
Emirates One&Only Wolgan Valley has to be seen to be believed. There are few locations in the world that manage to combine the natural beauty of it’s environment with the luxury and comfort that is expected from one of the world’s leading properties. The world’s first CarbonZero™ certified hotel, Wolgan Valley’s efforts to actively protect the surrounding habitat and indigenous wildlife has seen it win scores of international sustainability awards.
Nature walks, horse-riding, mountain-biking and 4WD tours are the perfect way to explore this expansive property, and it doesn’t matter how far you trek, there is always more to uncover.
Wolgan Valley has 36 one bedroom Heritage Villas on the property, each with it’s own unique yet modern take on Federation-era bungalows. Once you enter through the doors highlighted with stained-glass panels, you are welcomed into a sanctuary of natural stone, timber and fabrics. If you are looking for extra privacy, ask for Heritage Villas 17 or 41 as they are located at the end of the row. As an added bonus, every room has a private, heated pool! Located indoors, yet with the ability to open the doors and let in the warm country air, this is the sort of extra touch that takes Wolgan Valley from being a great hotel, to one of the world’s elite.
For larger groups or families, there are 3 secluded two bedroom Wollemi Villas, and the three bedroom Wolgan Villa that are each located closer to the main lodge, offering more majestic views and opportunities to mingle with the native wildlife.
EATING & DRINKING
Before we start discussing this aspect, it is worth noting that Wolgan Valley is all-inclusive. All meals are covered, and a broad selection of beverages are available as part of your package. If you have a desire to sample some more refined spirits or wines, the added cost is clearly addressed on the menus.
Room service is available for all meal services, and we definitely recommend ordering breakfast to your doorstep at least once during your stay. For lunch and dinner however, you would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn’t take full advantage of the magnificent panoramic views from the Wolgan Dining Room. The dining room itself is a massive barn-like homestead with a country club decor. Mismatched barrel chairs and high-backed chesterfield sofas are intermingled with recycled and restored artefacts found on the property over the decades. The menu showcases seasonal, local and organic produce and is highlighted by a five-course degustation that is edited on a nightly basis. Alternatively, you may order à la carte.
Downstairs is the relaxed Country Kitchen, a more relaxed providore-style eatery with communal tables.
The Valley Bar & Terrace Lounge spills out onto the veranda and is a the perfect place to unwind at the end of a long day exploring with a G&T or customised cocktail. If you are really beat, set yourself up near an open fire and and lean back on the comfy leather stockmen’s chairs.

OUT & ABOUT
You should have no desire to EVER leave Wolgan Valley.
Wolgan Valley is a 3 hour drive from Sydney, approximately 90 minutes past the famous Three Sisters located in the heart of the Blue Mountains. As you approach the front gate, you will be waved down by a friendly Wolgan staff member replete with Akubra, Driza-Bone and R.M. Williams. Your car will be parked here for the duration of your stay, as the next step of the journey will require the services of an experienced driver behind the wheel of a rugged all terrain vehicle.
Alternatively, you can easily jump on a train from Sydney direct to Lithgow Station, where a member of the Wolgan team will come and collect you.
Or if you really want to arrive with fanfare, a scenic chopper ride will take less than 45 minutes from Sydney direct to Wolgan’s very own private helipad. The view on arrival is second to none so if you have the means, this is definitely something to consider.
We love the cosiness of the lounge and the open fireplace in every room. We love the steam rising off the private villa pools in the early morning. We love the wombats and kangaroos that roam around you as you walk down the paths. We love the sprawling emerald green hills that stretch for miles. We love the chalky red cliffs that rise up and cradle the valley below. We love the Landrover Freelanders that collect us from our car and drop us at the lodge. And of course, we love all the delicate little touches that remind us that we are in the heart of Australia.
